Show moreOn October 8, 1890, Frederick Marshall was born to Netley Hound, Hampshire, England. He was the son of Thomas and Maria Louise Marshall, who had a total of fourteen children. Frederick was the 6th child of his thirteen siblings. On May 8, 1912, Marshall went to the Southampton docks in England and boarded the S.S. Oceanic that set sail for the United States of America. After the voyage was completed the S.S. Oceanic arrived at the port of New York. From New York, Marshall traveled to Seymour, Connecticut where he lived with his eldest sibling, Louisa Goddard on 140 Pearl Street. A couple years later, Marshall left the town of Seymour and returned to England to enlist in the British Army and fight in World War One. Once in Southampton, Marshall enlisted with the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, and received the regiment number 3375. During the last few months of the war the battles that the Welsh Guards fought in were severe. From November 5 to the 7, 1918, the 1st Battalion suffered many casualties and Marshall died on November 7, 1918. After the war, Private Marshall was posthumously awarded the Allied Victory Medal and British War Medal, both were awarded to soldiers after the war was concluded. Even though he did not survive the war, Marshall also received a medal from the town of Seymour, Connecticut which awarded medals to soldiers for there service. Show less
