Show moreBorn in Dorohoi, Romania in 1892 Grower's family came to the United States in 1900 first living in New York before moving to Middletown, CT in 1902. In 1917 Grower went to be inducted into the Army but was deemed underweight and told that they would call him back in three months. During that time he learned about the conditions at Fort Devens and decided to join the Navy from New Haven instead. He served for 21 months before being discharged honorably in 1919. He served on the USS Adams as Quartermaster Third Class. Show less
